Basha Alperin Bio

Basha Alperin is a multi-faceted artist and arts educator, teaching workshops in African /Caribbean music and dance for over 25 years in the U.S., Caribbean and Africa. Director of ZEYBRAH which produces the Oceans of Rhythm Festival in Long Branch (16 years), Grupo Iwa Dada and Co-director of ZENZILE; her passion is working with the youth.

She is the founder and director of ZEYBRAH, a non profit cultural organization, that provides services and training in the arts, and among many other projects, presents the annual OCEANS OF RHYTHM festival in Long Branch, now in its 16th season.

She is the director of Grupo Iwa Dada, an African and African/Caribbean drum and dance ensemble, which has presented programs at schools, festivals, and cultural events Basha has drummed internationally with many groups including: Mongo Santamaria, Roberto Burrell Y Su Kubata, Daily Planet, Tambou-Yambou and Jimi Solanke in Nigeria. She traveled to Nigeria with City College of New York to drum in FESTAC '77. She is also a filmmaker, storyteller, playwright and yoga teacher! Basha is also involved with various healing arts, offering classes and sessions in: Yoga, pilates, phoenix rising yoga therapy, yoga-dance and ZUMBA.
